Blackpool stag do guide

Blackpool is great if you are looking for

  • A quintessentially British stag do on the coast

  • Classic seaside resort offering great entertainment and loads of activities

  • A legendary nightlife scene with much of the action along the prom

Back in the day, before the rise of budget flights, Blackpool was the envy of Europe’s resorts. Holidaymakers have been flocking to the north west coast since the 1840s. In recent years Blackpool’s popularity has dwindled, but now with some heavy investment in tourism, particularly on the seafront, it’s back and fully loaded with all the attributes to give you a first-class stag do.

The new and improved Blackpool offers an enticing concoction of fun activities and exciting yet unpretentious nightlife, making it one of Britain’s best loved stag do destinations. Just mind the seagulls don’t have your chips.

Getting around

Getting to Blackpool

Blackpool perches on the north west coast of England, looking out over the Irish Sea, and an hour or so by train from both Manchester Airport, and John Lennon Airport in Liverpool. There’s no need to fly here though, with four daily rail connections from London Euston as well as regular services from York, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool.

Driving to Blackpool? There are several public car parks where you can confidently leave your vehicles for the weekend. Alternatively, ask our Blackpool stag planners about hotels with parking. There’s no real need to use your car while you’re here - Blackpool is very walkable, and if your activities are out of town, we can organise convenient door-to-door transfers for you.

Walking & Trams

Blackpool is compact and flat so most of our stag groups choose to get around on foot. The sandy beaches here extend for some seven miles in total, while the ‘Golden Mile’ in central Blackpool, along which much of the nightlife action takes place, is actually more like three miles. The Tramway runs the length of it - purchase a 3-day Blackpool1 travel pass (which handily also covers buses) if you think you’ll be using it a lot, or pay contactless onboard for an individual journey.

Taxis

Taxis are always available too if you need, and if you're feeling adventurous, then you could pay to travel on a horse drawn carriage, also known as a ‘landau’ along the seafront.

eBikes

Another option is to check out Blackpool eBike Hire, where you can choose from their Cube Electric Bikes, The Synch Super Monkey or the MiRiDER Folding eBike. All of them are state of the art and will have you off on your way to exploring blackpool in no time.

Tips and ideas

The Best Stag Do Ideas in Blackpool

This brilliant outdoor venue offers a variety of karting options, including a Grand Prix that’s perfect for injecting a bit of healthy competition into your weekend! There’s also a team endurance session available, if you’d prefer to work together (with just a hint of rivalry!). It’s fast, it’s furious and action packed - you and the rest of the stags will have an absolute belter of a time as you zoom around this wicked track.

2. Bar Crawl

Discover the best of Blackpool’s vibrant nightlife with one of these brilliant guided bar crawls! One of our recommendations for groups celebrating a Blackpool stag do is without a doubt, our bar crawl beauties tour. You’ll be led around the best boozers and party spots by some fun loving gals, who really know how to have a good time! There will be games along the way, along with forfeits too - you’ve been warned!

You can’t come all the way to Blackpool and not experience this town’s most famous attraction! The iconic Blackpool Pleasure Beach is perfect for some daytime thrills and adrenaline junkies alike will get their kicks here. There’s loads of top attractions to ride, including The Avalanche, Ice Blast and of course, The Big One - The UK’s tallest and fastest roller coaster. With this one, we’ll organise unlimited wristbands for you and your pals, giving you the chance to ride as many times as you like for the day!

4. Bubble Football

Give the five-a-side lark a miss and give a hilarious session of bubble football a try instead! This activity is a proper stag do staple, and one that’s not to be missed. If you’ve never played before, then you’re in for a right laugh. You’ll each be encased in giant, inflatable zorbs, leaving your legs free to poke out. Here, you’ll bounce, bump and crash your way around the pitch, just like a bunch of human pinballs! Get set for laugh out loud collisions as you get stuck into a variety of games which includes Bulldog, Last Man Standing and Capture The Flag. If you’re after a daft experience during the Blackpool stag do, then look no further than bubble football!

5. Clay Pigeon Shooting

Prepare to lock and load with this exhilarating clay pigeon shooting experience in Blackpool! This activity is a brilliant way to release any pre-wedding jitters, and you won’t need any previous shooting experience either! Your friendly activity coordinator will give you all a safety briefing and teach you the best way to hold your gun and take aim - then it’ll be up to you to shoot those elusive clays out of the sky! Reckon you and the lads have got what it takes to aim for victory? We think so!

6. Xtreme Footgolf

Are you ready for one seriously epic fusion of footie finesse and golfing glory? If so, then we’ve got just the thing for you and the rest of the stags - Xtreme footgolf! This brilliant game is perfect for daytime laughs, and will get you out and about, working off last night’s hangover! You’ll head to a great green, where you’ll switch the golf clubs for your feet! The aim of the game is to kick the football into the specially adapted holes in as little moves as possible. Look forward to outrageous shots and plenty of hilarity in equal measures. All equipment will be provided, including a forfeit sheet too!

7. Activity Combos

Why settle for one awesome activity, when you can experience two instead? Here, good times are the name of the game and there’s a variety of brilliant activity combos you can opt for during your big weekend in Blackpool. All combos include a side-splitting session of bubble football, followed by an extra activity of your choice. Choose from battle archery, school sports day, dodgeball or bullseye. There’s something here for everyone, where plenty the banter is guaranteed - so what’s it gonna be?

8. Nightlife Party Pass

If you don’t fancy a guided pub crawl and would rather take Blackpool’s nightlife at your own pace, then one of our nightlife party passes could be just the answer! With this handy option, you and your stag group will each be granted access to an awesome selection of this destination’s best late night venues - any entry fees will all be sorted. Look forward to a top mix of bars, pubs and nightclubs, or even lap dancing clubs if you want to spice things up!

9. Beer Bucket Package

Life’s better with a bucket of beers as the much loved saying goes. Okay, we just made that up, but what's not to love about entry to a top venue, where a beer bucket will be included for your drinking pleasure? This package is the perfect way to get your big night out in Blackpool kick-started in style. On arrival, you and the rest of the group will be shown to your reserved area for two hours, which also includes table service. Nice one!

10. Nightclub Entry

Finish the night off the right way with entry to one of Blackpool’s biggest and best nightclubs. There’s something for everyone here, and we’ll even sort all the entry fees so you can join the guestlist and live like stag do VIPs/legends that you are! Whether you’re all about the cheesy 80s tunes at Reflex or want to live it up at Popworld, you’ll find everything you need, right here!

Other Blackpool Stag Do Ideas

Like an invigorating stroll along the pier? Then you’ll love Blackpool. It has three! The northernmost has an amusement arcade - if you’re planning a winter stag, be there at sunset to catch the murmuration, as the starlings come into roost. The central pier has a Ferris wheel, while the south pier has a number of white-knuckle adrenaline rides that we wouldn’t recommend tackling if you’ve had a skinful.

The Winter Gardens is Blackpool’s largest entertainment venue, and it attracts some big names throughout the year - comedy and live music performances are a good bet if that’s your thing. More culture can be had with a wander along the south promenade to admire a series of sculptures, thought-provoking installations by several established and emerging artists.

Most groups, naturally, want a seaside stag do in the summertime. But between September and January, the iconic Blackpool Illuminations offer one of the world’s great free light shows. They’re definitely the highlight of a winter stag do in Blackpool, and you can take open-top trams the length of them (they’re six miles long and use about a million bulbs). They’re now all powered by green electricity, presumably because they had a carbon footprint bigger than the rest of Blackpool combined.

Nursing a sore head from the night before? Take the air at the huge Stanley Park, where you can hire pedal boats, play a little pitch ‘n’ putt, and escape the hustle and bustle of the seafront for a few hours.

Nightlife

Blackpool is a nocturnal city and thrives after dark, so if you’re worried about good options for you and the lads to get the beers in, there’s no need. Although there are fewer stag and hen groups wandering around in fancy dress then there used to be, this is still a very welcoming town for revellers and you can be sure of a great night out. With that in mind, here’s our guide to Blackpool nightlife and the best places for your stag group to go.

Pubs, Bars and The Promenade

First up: the Manchester, located on the promenade between the south and central piers. This is a big, friendly sports pub, a good place to eat, with weekend DJs and a beer garden facing the sea. A solid option to start your evening off.

15 minutes’ walk up the prom, close to the north pier, you’ve got Market Street, and two ever-popular stag group haunts: Revolution, and Yates. Walkabout, on Queen Street, is just a little further on. Though they have their differences, you know what to expect in this kind of joint: decent, good-value food, beers and spirits in full flow, and always a lively atmosphere.

If you'd prefer to start the night with a proper bit of grub, just let us know. We can pre book and pre pay for meals for the whole group and we even take pre orders, so there's no hassle when ordering on the night and no faffing around with bills at the end - there's always one that slopes off when the bill arrives, right?

Live Music and Karaoke

If you’d like some live music to accompany your drinks, then both Bootleg Social, and the Galleon (jazz and blues), are good bets. The Tache, on Corporation Street, is Blackpool’s famous rock club - hair furniture not necessary despite the name, but (good taste) fancy dress always gets the nod of approval. For stag groups that like to handle the singing themselves - and we know there’s lots of you out there - there’s karaoke at Gaietys on the promenad which is open from March and throughout the summer.

Nightclubs

Cheesy classics from the 70s to the 00s can be found at Popworld and Reflex, both of them on the promenade. The music will get you on the dancefloor, the drinks deals will get you moving, and the fact that this is hen party central will no doubt get you in the door. If this is your thing, we can help you out with a peace-of-mind guest list entry to Reflex and Popworld. We can’t stop Dave getting a round of pina coladas in though, sorry.

Clubs-wise, Blackpool hits the jackpot again. Head over to Hush, on Market Street, for urban music, dancehall and hip hop. The vast Flamingo, on Queen Street, starts a countdown with 5 levels, 4 bars, 3 DJs and 2 dance floors - for 1 big night out. And Trilogy on Talbot Road, is another great late-night option, with three floors and open ‘til 4am. It’s on Talbot Road, so set a bit inland from most of the stag nightlife, but worth the short taxi ride we reckon.

FAQs

Is Blackpool good for stag do’s?

People have been flocking to Blackpool for fun on the coast for years, and while it’s quietened down a bit since its heyday, this is still a seriously good destination for a stag do. You’ve got heaps of great stag activities and entertainment available to you, including the iconic Pleasure Beach.

The nightlife is justly famous especially along the prom and Market Street. And the resort as a whole is very welcoming to hedonistic partygoers, given that so much of the economy here is built around tourism.

What are the best Blackpool stag do bars?

You can’t go wrong with venues such as Walkabout, Yates or Revolution - and the great thing is that they’re all clustered within a five-minute walk of each other near Blackpool’s north pier. A 20-minute walk south (or a short taxi / tram ride) you’ve got the Manchester, which is a big sports pub with a lively atmosphere and a good beer garden. We also like the cheese-tastic Reflex, on the promenade, where you can get your boogie on and take advantage of their regular drinks promotions.

There’s a huge amount of choice though Blackpool is such a top night out, as our reviews will tell you. If you need any more inspiration or advice, our Blackpool stag planners are ready and waiting with ideas.

What are the best stag do activities in Blackpool?

This is always a tricky one to answer because no two stag groups are alike. In our experience though most groups are looking for one or two classic stag do activities over a weekend: Paintballing and Go Karting for example, with the rest of their time in the days free to wander Blackpool.

The Pleasure Beach is a must with some great rides and arcades, and if you’ve got a hangover then we also strongly recommend a wander around the massive Stanley Park, where you can hire pedal boats. The Sandcastle Waterpark is also a decent option especially on a rainy weekend, as it’s indoors with loads of fun slides.

Do you arrange stag do accommodation in Blackpool?

Absolutely. In fact, this is one of the most important aspects of organising any stag weekend. We’ve been helping groups have a great time in Blackpool since 2002, and over the years we’ve developed good relationships with many hotel chains here. So we can offer you plenty of choice, and excellent room rates too. And have no fears about being stuck out on the edge miles from anywhere - we know you want to be in the thick of the action, so we’ll always accommodate you within a short walk of the main nightlife areas.

Can you help with Blackpool stag weekend packages?

Yes - in fact this is something that a lot of groups are looking for, simply because it takes a lot of the stress out of planning. A Blackpool stag package will typically include one or two activities, perhaps a meal out, nightclub or bar entry, and your accommodation. It’s a basic framework, you can add other things on as you need them.

Essentially, booking a package saves you effort, it offers you good value, and it ensures that your accommodation is sorted as well as giving you a headstart on your entertainment. We have a variety of stag do packages in Blackpool available, so let us know if one appeals and we can get you going.
