Trending stag activities in Brighton

With its bohemian atmosphere, a thrilling range of activities, and lively bars and clubs lining its pebbly beach, Brighton is one of the UK’s best cities for a stag weekend.

Brighton stag do guide

Brighton is great if you are looking for

  • A city that's quirky and full of hidden gems (and colourful local characters!)

  • Lively range of beachside bars, pubs and clubs

  • Just an hour south of London on the train

Brighton holds a special place in The Stag Company's heart. This beautiful, vibrant city by the sea is home to our team HQ, so we get to enjoy all that is has to offer on a daily basis - and we also get to witness the epic weekends that stag groups enjoy here all year round. There's nothing like seeing hordes of happy Stag groups coming out of the train station and heading down the hill towards the bustling bars and glittering waters of the seafront!

A Brighton stag do gives you everything you’d want from a classic British seaside resort. You’ve got the Palace Pier with its arcades and rides. You’ve got a wide variety of top notch restaurants to meet every appetite, the best pubs and bars on the South Coast (ok, we're slightly biased!), stacks of live music venues, and a multitude of adrenaline-pumping activities spread out across the city and the South Downs. And of course Brighton is also a hub for hen parties, so you’ll be likely to run into a few! All in all, we're confident that a stag weekend in Brighton will never disappoint!

Getting around

Heading to Brighton

If you’re travelling to Brighton by train, then you’ll be pleased to know that the station, with its attractive curved-glass roof, is conveniently located right in the heart of the city. It’s just an hour from London, under 40 minutes from Gatwick Airport, and then from the station to the beach is simply a 10-minute stroll down lively Queens Road.

If you’re planning to drive to Brighton, we recommend car-sharing and splitting the cost of parking. While there are plenty of large central public car parks - the NCP on Russell Road near the Brighton Centre being one good example - those in the city centre can be rather expensive. On-street parking tends to be even more pricey, and also limited, with permits required in many areas. Some hotels will offer cheap car parking, while in a secure car park you can expect to pay up to £30 for 24 hours. There is no free parking within a 30-minute walk of Brighton city centre, so all-in-all, you’re best off coming by public transport if you can.

Once you’ve settled in, you’ll find that walking is the best way to get around on a Brighton stag do, due to the city’s compact size. It’s mostly flat, with the steeper sections in more residential areas. If you don’t fancy a walk, or if you’re feeling a little fragile from the night before, then there are plenty of buses and taxi services too.

Most of the time you should be able to walk wherever you need to go, but double-check the location of the activities, as some of the more action based ones might be a bit further out to provide the space, such as a footgolf course in Falmer or a bubble football game closer to Rottingdean.

Buses & Taxis

Stag groups can be reassured they’re never more than a few minutes’ stumble from the bus stop they need. There are reliable night-time taxi ranks to be found in stag-friendly locations at the bottom of North Street, in the Old Steine area, and at various points along the seafront. Uber also operates around the city 24/7 - it’s super easy to book a cab using your app.

Beryl BTN Bike Hire

During the day and if the weather’s nice, you can download the BTN BikeShare app, which will allow you to easily hire bikes at points around the city. If you have the energy for it, you could take a leisurely (and traffic-free) cycle all the way to Rottingdean (4.5 miles), where you can get a nice portion of fish and chips and gaze out to sea from the undercliffs. The pay as you ride tariff is the most popular, and there’s a £1 fee to unlock. The cost to hire a pedal bike is 8p per minute, while an e-bike is charged at 16p per minute. It’s a great way to zip around the city and take in the sights! You can also pay for a 2-day, 7-day or 30-day pass so you can get plenty of minutes in, depending on how long you want your stag weekend to last.

Tips and ideas

1. Beer Bike

Fancy a sightseeing tour of this seaside city that involves plenty of beer? Then we must introduce to you, The Brighton Pedal Tour! If you’re worried about missing leg day, then this activity will have you covered with all the pedalling you’ll be doing! Expect plenty of laughs and banter on route, along with hilarious games thrown in for good measure. And don’t worry if you’re feeling delicate after last night's antics, there’ll be plenty of chances to stop and take a breather. Just make sure you bring some comfy footwear, as you’re going to be pedalling like maniacs!

2. Alcotraz Prison Bar Experience

Watch out, because during this Brighton stag do, you and the rest of the lads are going to land yourselves behind bars! This brilliant, immersive experience takes on the theme of an American style prison, which features professional actors who play the warden and crooked guards and bring this unique storyline to life. Your mission is to smuggle in your own bottles of liquor and subtly pass them to the crooked guards who will mix you up some delicious cocktails - just don’t let the warden see! On arrival, you’ll be given orange jumpsuits to wear and will be lead to your cell, where you’ll remain for the experience. It won’t be long ‘till you're guzzling down some impressive concoctions, created using the liquor you smuggled in!

3. Sixes Cricket

Social cricket you say? Yep, that’s right. Sixes Cricket is the latest craze to hit Brighton, and is a brilliant laugh for anyone celebrating a stag do. But if you’re not sure what social cricket even is, let us fill you in. This experience will allow you to put your batting skills to the test, and here, you and your group will have access to your very own indoor batting net for the session. You’ll take it in turns to choose a bat and difficulty level, before the cutting edge technology fires out balls for you to take a swing at. There’s various packages on offer, which includes food and drink too - all that batting is thirsty work after all!

4.  Guided Bar Crawl

When it comes to bars and pubs, Brighton is the ultimate playground for stag groups looking to have a good time. But if you’re not from these parts, then it’s hard to know which watering holes are the best to head to. But good news! You won’t have to spend loads of time researching the top venues, because we’ve got some great guided bar crawls on offer. That’s right, you can expect a top mix of the city’s hottest pubs, bars and clubs, all hosted by a friendly guide. Whether you’re just after a standard bar crawl, or you’d like to be guided by some bubbly, gorgeous ladies with the ‘Bar Crawl Beauties’ tour, we’ve got everything you need for the ultimate night out in Brighton.

5. Go Karting

Get all revved up with an adrenaline fuelled session of go karting and make your big weekend one to remember! Brighton’s indoor track is pretty legendary, and here, you’ll be able to take on twists and turns of all manners as you go head to head against your mates. Look forward to the likes of a double apex, a flyover, tunnel and mega straights as you zip around on these epic 200cc karts, which can reach top speeds of 40 mph! There’s various karting activities on offer, including an Ultimate Race, Open Grand Prix event and Exclusive Grand Prix event, so something to cater to every group!

6. Jedi Training

Ready to feel the force? Then Jedi training is a must for your Brighton stag do. This unique and quirky activity will see you and the rest of your pals live out your childhood dream of wielding lightsabers and becoming the biggest heroes in the galaxy! You’ll be taught by a true Jedi master how to fight like a pro, and will learn some epic sword fighting skills. It won’t be long until you’re let loose with the lightsabers and recreating your favourite battle scenes from the movies!

7. Clay Pigeon Shooting

Enjoy some serious daytime thrills with a clay pigeon shooting experience in Brighton. It’s the perfect addition to your stag do itinerary and a great way to see who’s got the best aim amongst the group. You’ll head to a top, rural venue, where you’ll be met by your activity coordinator. They’ll give you the lowdown on how the experience will run and will provide you with all the necessary equipment. After that, you’ll be in for a jam packed session of taking aim and firing at flying targets! The good news is that it’s suitable for all abilities, whether you’re a bit of a pro or have never handled a shotgun in your life. You certainly won’t be firing blanks with this one!

8. It’s a Knockout

Are you ready to witness inflatable madness at its finest with this downright daft ‘It’s a Knockout’ experience? You’ll take on all kinds of hilarious games and challenges with this one, where pure chaos is guaranteed! From tackling obscure, inflatable courses, and battling your way through a whole load of foam, to completing challenges in giant, novelty costumes, you’ll be sure to have an absolute blast. There’s a total of six ridiculous games for you and your mates to get stuck into. So what are you waiting for? Crank up the laughs with this side-splitting session of 'It's a Knockout' in Brighton!

9. Bubble Football

Bubble football is the bouncy addition to your stag do that you never knew you needed! Totally bonkers but equally hilarious, this brilliant game will see your group don giant, inflatable zorbs on their top halves, leaving everyone’s legs to run free. This is the beautiful game like you’ve never seen before, where you’ll bounce and crash as you tackle one another and attempt to score a goal. A celebratory somersault is a must if you actually manage to score. Your session will be led by an activity coordinator, who will run through the rules and ref the experience. You’ll be able to try your hand at a variety of games, including Bulldog, Last Man Standing, Crossbar Challenge and Dizzy Penalties.

10. Stag Stitch Up Life Drawing

One thing every stag do needs is a prank or a stitch up - even if it’s just a little one. And if you’re after something that’s not too extreme, then look no further than this brilliant idea: stag stitch up life drawing! It’s a great way to play a prank on the groom and put him in the spotlight. With this one, you’ll make your way to a venue in Brighton, where everyone will be expecting to sketch a professional nude life model - just imagine the shock of the groom when it’s revealed that he’s the star of the show. Don’t worry though, you won’t have to sketch the groom butt naked. We won’t put you through that! He’ll be asked to pose though, and it’ll be up to you and the rest of the lads to immortalise him on canvas forever!

More Brighton Stag Do Tips

Brighton is an excellent location for stag groups as it has everything you need for a weekend to remember (or forget!) What happens in Brighton, stays in Brighton! Whether you want your weekend to be full of classic stag do activities like Paintballing and Quad Biking, or you want to experience something a little more unusual like Bourbon Tasting and Jedi Training, Brighton pretty much has it all.

Is it really a trip to the seaside without making a beeline for the pier and reliving your childhood? You and the guys can get a little competitive with the arcades on the pier, followed by a pint at Horatio's, or a bag of hot sugary donuts in a deckchair - or both! There’s also some pretty adventurous rides, including the nerve-shredding Booster - do it on an empty stomach, is our sage advice. If you’d prefer something a little more relaxed, boat trips out to the awesome Rampion Wind Farm run from the Marina (30 minutes from the Palace Pier on foot, or just grab the number 7 bus). You can combine them with some fishing, and maybe even see the resident dolphins. There’s also the attention-grabbing i360, where a glass capsule takes you 162m up this slim observation tower with amazing views across Brighton, the South Downs, and the sea. If your group is feeling brave, why not book in for the Walk i360 activity where you'll get to stand on top of the capsule, rather than inside it!

Only in Brighton

The narrow streets of The Lanes and the North Laines, either side of North Street, are lined with cool bars, pubs, cafes, restaurants and quirky, independent shops. If you want craft beer, vegan pizza or a novelty sex toy for the stag to parade around with, you’ll find it here. And probably all in the same place! On West Street, meanwhile, you’ll find lots of spacious, commercial bars which are really popular with stag and hen groups, and are great places for pre-drinking. Among them is Revolution, which is an ideal option for dinner before heading out on the town. During the summer, this street carries vibes of the Benidorm strip, so it's a must for any Stag group!

Throughout the year, there are a number of different social events that take over the city. They range from foodie festivals to classic car conventions, as well as quirky favourites like Paddle Round the Pier and the Naked Bike Ride

Major events include the Brighton Fringe, always a hit with comedy fans, the Brighton Festival which showcases the arts, the Great Escape music festival where upcoming acts perform live in venues across the city, and of course the legendary Brighton Pride. All of these events see Brighton hotels fill up fast, so make sure your accommodation is booked early if your stag weekend in Brighton coincides with any of them. Check out what’s on in Brighton before you go to find out if there are any exciting events that you can incorporate into your stag weekend - or just ask one of our expert team.

Nightlife

Brighton and a good night out go together like vodka and Red Bull. The city has a varied and unique nightlife scene that draws thousands of people from all over the UK. Many choose to spend their evenings in one of the beachside clubs which really come alive in the summertime.

However, some of the pubs, bars and clubs along the seafront and in the bohemian Laines areas tend to be a little wary of stag groups. You could try breaking your group up for staggered entry. Not sure where to head? No problem! We've got the lowdown on some of the city's best nightlife areas, with top recommendations for your group.

West Street

West Street is like a stag do paradise, with loads of well known bar and club chains on offer. Here you’ve got Antipodean sports bar Walkabout or cocktails at Revolution (both great places to grab a bite to eat as well, so let us know if you’d like us to book you a table). There are also plenty of seats and a great pint to be found at Molly Malones, or pure, unadulterated cheese at Popworld which is hen night central. Also on West Street, you’ve got the Bright Helm, which is a Wetherspoons so you can be sure of decently priced food and drink - it never hurts to get a few cheap rounds in to kick off the proceedings!

At the bottom of West Street as you head towards the seafront, you'll find Steinbeck & Shaw, which is just moments from PRYZM, an enduringly popular club for stag groups. Offering up themed rooms with different music genres, there'll be something for everyone's tastes. And being situated right at the foot of West Street, it's also close to a taxi rank, making it super convenient. Just off West Street, hidden away on Boyce's Street, is The Oculist, an awesome venue with a newly decked out roof garden. Here, you'll find potent cocktails, along with all your favourite drinks, delicious food and electronic music.

Seafront & The Laines

Along the seafront you’ve got a fantastic range of bars and clubs. The Tempest and the Fortune of War are both ideal for a spot of day-drinking when the weather is good. Oh, we need to talk about Fortune of War, when you imagine that pint along the seafront with the lads in the sun, sunglasses on and embracing the summer weather, then Fortune of War is your place. In fact, so is the Zip Bar, just to the left of the Pier, where you can get a rooftop view of the beach and the Pier, as well as having a go on the zip wire if you dare.

Just in-land in The Lanes is The Walrus on Ship Street with its eclectic style and two-storey roof garden, and The Mesmerist on Prince Albert Street with four bars, a lovely roof garden, and stylish decor inspired by old gin palaces. Both are first class venues for groups.

If you’re after something a little bit different before the evening really hits its stride, Brighton will not disappoint. There’s karaoke at recently refurbished Lucky Voice in The Lanes, always a favourite with plenty of drinks deals to enjoy in your private room - or you can even take part in a cocktail making masterclass on-site. Komedia is a Brighton institution, a comedy club that regularly attracts big names, and it’s right next door to the Gourmet Burger Kitchen so it couldn't be easier to make a night of it there.

And at the North Laine Brewhouse, a spacious and lively pub and microbrewery, you’ve got Axe-Throwing, in a caged-off area next to the bar. Have a few drinks with your mates and take part in a tournament to see who can sling the steel with the most accuracy.

Nightclubs

As for clubs, Shooshh, located on the seafront, is always a popular option with stag groups. Complete with a large outdoor area, this club opens up its doors on warm days to welcome in the sea air and provide that unbeatable Brighton clubbing experience. Casablanca on Middle Street is perfect for a completely unpretentious boogie on the dancefloor, while it has been around a good while and is a local favourite. Playing classic jazz, funk, Motown, soul and disco, it has a famous party-all-night ambience that has always made it a Brighton favourite for late-night drinkers and dancers. Whilst PRYZM has you covered for those dancefloor classics, if your group fancies something a little less mainstream musically, you might try Volks or Patterns, which are both very near to the Palace Pier.

Lap Dancing Clubs

And finally, if it’s lap dancing that you’re after, then we recommend popping over to Platinum Lace. This is our favourite lap dancing club in Brighton, and it’s located in a prime city-centre spot close to many good pubs and bars. Inside the club, you’ll find private booths and lots of comfy seating for you to sit down and take in the, er, scenery.
