What to expect from Canoeing on your Stag Weekend
Now for a quick history lesson!
Canoes were developed over the course of thousands of years primarily by the native people of North America. The actual word we know today as 'canoe' originated from the word Kenu meaning 'dugout'. These dugout canoes, essentially large tree trunks that were shaped and hollowed, were used for simple needs of transportation along waterways or travelling between islands.
Doesn't sound very exciting for a stag weekend does it? But this was before crazy adrenaline junkies got hold of them, made them closed-deck preventing water getting in and deciding to find out what it would be like to shoot down rapids or paddle off waterfalls. Now that's exciting.
Amazing canoeing stag weekends available on the Riga stag do and Swansea
Canoeing is a great way to enjoy a sun soaked few hours and remember... be the canoe... think as a canoe... you are one.
OK, so you won't be doing anything as extreme but you will be taught a few vital techniques that will get you out of trouble, such as the notorious Eskimo Roll and various propulsion strokes.
The most difficult skill to master is to treat the canoe as an extension of your body. By combining canoe, paddle and body into a single unit, you can propel the vessel more efficiently and control steerage and speed to an amazing degree. Got it? If this is too much to take in then you can always have fun capsizing all your friends and getting well and truly soaked.
Stag weekends don't always have to be about practicing heinous self abuse but some healthy exercise definitely does work up a party appetite. Not to mention discovering muscles you thought you never had.
