While we’re all too familiar with stories of stag party groups out pulling whales in the clubs of their chosen city, we have to admit – this is a stag do first for us. A man was fishing on the gulf coast of Texas for a bachelor party and caught a shark – not just any shark – oh no – a 9 foot bull shark. The 6th, final, and biggest shark caught on the weekend.
That’s certainly one way to be sure of a memorable stag weekend, too bad we don’t offer stag weekends in Galveston, Texas just yet – I’d be up for a spot of shark fishing, for sure.
Zachery Seltz pulled in the giant shark on his stag weekend, but he was quick to move to preserve the reputation of his capture,
“You shouldn’t demonize the shark. You’re in their territory,” said Seltz.
“This was the sixth shark of the trip that we caught,”
Alright, Zach, there’s pride in your work, then there’s arrogance. Reign it in, matey. He goes on,
“If you know how to respect them, it’s not bad,” said Seltz.
“Some people keep saying this is a good omen for the marriage… I’ll take it”
Seltz says he will continue to hunt these sharks after he’s wed, perhaps all this time spent at sea will be the key to success in the relationship. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, afterall.
We offer fishing as part of our more coastal stag weekends, particularly fun on a Brighton stag do FYI. Especially for an older crowd, this is a great way to sink a few beers with your best mates and watch the day roll away catching fish and even introducing a competitive element to the weekend. Though we doubt you’ll be able to catch many sharks around the UK, but never say never.
