The seaside destination of Blackpool has been surging in popularity this year with airline strikes and volcanic ash given as reasons for the resort’s rise in popularity.
Hen and stag weekends in Blackpool have always been popular, but the Lancashire destination has seen an overall dip of visitors from 1998 and 2008 from about 13 million a year to 10 million.
However, Blackpool’s council has reported that following an increase in 2009 there has also been a surge in visitors this year with a particular rise in short stay visitors.
In June, Blackpool was named as the UK’s favourite seaside resort by consumer organisation Which?.
