Blackpool tipped to benefit from UK holiday boom
Blackpool could be set to attract more visitors as a result of the weakness of the pound against the euro.
Doug Garrett, chief executive of regeneration body ReBlackpool, said less than favourable exchange rates are putting people off heading abroad.
This, he stated, combined with the credit crunch, means that more people are taking holidays in the UK.
As a result, he believes the stag night hotspot in Lancashire could be well-placed to benefit from this trend.
“People will travel less overseas,” Mr Garrett commented.
“There’s an opportunity for us there”.
Speaking to BBC News, he said this would be a positive development for the town following the failure of its bid to secure a Las Vegas-style super casino.
Mr Garrett described the decision to award the casino to Manchester as “like a bereavement”.
The pound recently slumped to an all-time low against the euro, further impacting on the cost of trips to places such as France and Spain.
