Newcastle stag weekends are on the rise – not particularly new news (we reported this a few months ago), but the new hit MTV reality show is prompting an even further surge of revellers to this well-known party capital. All good news, right? Local businesses stand to make huge gains – kebab shops, pubs, clubs all have seen their coffers swell, even the British railway service must be chuffed with the rise of travellers – not so, it seems.

The hit series is apparently marking Newcastle out as a target for the most despicable of invaders from North of the Border – these brutish oafs are allegedly guilty of acts of anti-social behaviour, including swearing, playing loud music and shouting – causing a British Transport Police spokeswoman to say, enough is enough.

Sgt Stephanie Reynolds, from British Transport Police, said: “Passengers have reported problems from large groups travelling on the trains for their anti-social behaviour, often swearing, playing loud music and shouting – disturbing other passengers from their journey on their way to stag weekends.

“We have had officers on these services and at stations warning revellers of their behaviour which has seen a reduction of incidents.

“However, we are not complacent and will continue have officers onboard to reduce this issue.”

This flies in the face of last month, when Kerry Taylor, the director of MTV said that Geordie Shore, far from being detrimental to the image of Newcastle, was actually a positive influence,

“The show has got some slightly outrageous pieces, and we’re absolutely not trying to represent the north-east.

“[But] I do think the qualities that come across in the characters – their warmth, their sense of loyalty to each other and their sense of humour – are really admirable qualities and I think that’s a really positive perspective on the north-east.”

Sgt Reynolds was not convinced, however, as she added,

“We aren’t out to spoil your party. Newcastle is a beautiful city full of culture and fantastic night life. We want everyone to enjoy themselves, but would warn visitors not to spoil the party for anyone else.

“Anti-social behaviour and over indulging in alcohol will not be tolerated on the rail network and we will continue to put officers on services to reassure passengers and staff.”

Make your own mind up, people – but be sure to board the good ship fun times, with a stag do Newcastle stylee.

One of Britain’s most popular cities for stag weekends has taken measures to ban sex toys from its streets in a bid to clean up is image. stag weekends Newquay-style will have to live without blow up dolls and dildos from here on out as fed up residents have complained that tourists are being left with a bad impression after these bawdy revellers parade through the streets brandishing lewd props.

This ban comes as the respected travel guide book dubbed Newquay, “more Costa Del Sol than Cornwall” and has caused local residents to express concern about the eyes and minds of the town’s children.

Police are under strict instruction to cofiscate any crude inflatables, props or clothing that may offend residents or other visitors from stag weekends the town over.

Dave Sleeman is the chairman of Newquay Town Residents Association and according to him, enough is enough:

“I recently saw a guy who was half-naked hanging out of a window with a sex toy and shouting at women in the street – it was ten o’clock in the morning”

May we suggest a watershed? Perhaps you can only take your inflatable other half out after 9pm? Or perhaps they should be attired if going out during the day?

Sleeman continues:

“I don’t see why we should have that in our town. There are people who come here for Friday and Saturday and make the town centre a no-go area”

Don’t think yer man, Sleeman quite grasps the concept of tourist dollar, there.

Ian Drummond-Smith of Devon and Cornwall Police, said:

“People come down to have a good time and the majority don’t want to see these things.

“If the ban discourages people from coming, so be it – we have got think about the families”

Won’t somebody PLEASE think about the children!??

Ahem, sorry. Yep, so Newquay stag weekends will never be the same again. If you want to keep hold of your inflatable woman, probably best to leave at her home, chaps.

When you think about stag weekends you’d be forgiven for imagining 25-35 year old blokes in customized t-shirts bearing all manner of insulting nicknames across the back. Perhaps it’s time to think again, as Edinburgh stag dos take on an all-together more wrinkly appearance. With not a stripper or a vomit-stained pavement in sight, the good menfolk of the Tower Residential Home in Murrayfield marked the Royal Wedding build up with a very special and original Edinburgh stag taking in fish and chips, a casino and cocktails.

The females of the retirement home joined in the fun with a simultaneous Edinburgh hen night reports Stv.tv. The pensioners visited the Circus Casino for a flutter, where they sipped on cocktails, rolling back the years to their bachelor days of yore.

The Assistant Manager of the Tower Residential home said: “It’s not about being old, it’s about enjoying yourself.

“With the stag and hen, they have a good time and they are participating in the wedding. They have had a great time today – everybody should have the chance to celebrate the wedding.”

With a royal banquet organised for last Friday’s royal wedding it seems that this particular facility was lapping up every last drop of royal bubbly over the past weekend. They also arranged to share pictures and memories from their own wedding days as part of the wedding festivities. Now, I don’t want to get on my high horse, but these kind of events were responsible for the nationwide shortage in bunting lest-we-forget.

Councillor Paul Edie, Health and Social Care Leader, said: “We regularly run exciting and fun initiatives for our residents from Wii competitions to X Factor competitions.

“And these types of projects are a great way of keeping older people active. As a Council we like to change and develop the services we provide in care homes to benefit residents and their families.”

Lovely stuff.

We keep reading that Blackpool is trying to shed its stag and hen image, so The Stag Company decided to investigate just what is going on in the town that rocks.

Blackpool is clearly a lot of fun for stags and hens. It is not a random coincidence that thousands of guys and girls party here every weekend through the summer months and who can blame them. Loads of bars and clubs, a city that barely sleeps and lots of cheesy fun to be had during the hungover daytime hours.

So what’s wrong? Well, Blackpool also want to appeal to the family holiday market, so while we are sleeping in our hotel rooms the beaches are full of children riding donkeys and, erm, what ever else youngsters get up these days.

However, we’ve been told on the quiet that, shhhhh keep this to yourself, Blackpool is still very much open to business to stag and hens, they are just not telling the parents that.

We were asked yesterday, live  on TalkSport about what we’d suggest for Prince William’s Stag Weekend, following the engagement announcement  a couple of days ago.

What Can William REALLY get away with on his Stag Weekend?

There are 2 ways you could look at it. If he’s just shelled out on a ring that’s worth £250,000, he may be a little hard up, so perhaps a cheesy and cheap stag weekend in Brighton, popping into a strip club would be best suited. But we did think that there is probably a law somewhere that doesn’t allow you to sellotape a future King, naked, to a lamppost down West Street (The main Stag club strip in Brighton for all of you not in the ‘know’).

We’ve settled on a Riga stag weekend instead. The stupidly lax gun laws there are so good that you can get your hands around live-ammunition-filled Kalashnikov’s, and Prince William could take a few pot shots into the bushes behind his targets, where there may or may not be literally hundreds of the ‘paps’ hiding. It is hunting season, and he is the stag, so we won’t frown upon that.

We were also thinking of offering his best man, Harry, the chance to stitch him up with a Kidnap The Stag package, where the local police over there (not the corrupt ones!) come and snatch the unsuspecting Stag and scare the bejoolies out of him at the thorough  enjoyment of the rest of the lads.

NOTE TO SELF: Send a memo to MI5 before we set this up, just so they are in the loop!

The girls in Riga are amazing, so it would be well worth the trip. Hopefully he won’t be tempted to stray that night though, as we think there would be PLENTY of people watching on.

Bournemouth and Bristol have been included in a list of towns and cities that are recognised as being ‘safe and enjoyable’ places for a night out.

They are among six news places to win the national Purple Flag award which is similar to the Blue Flag award for beaches.

Bournemouth and Bristol, which are two of the most popular stag and hen weekend destinations, are joined by Halifax, High Wycombe, Oxford and Winchester on being added to the list.

The scheme assesses each area’s crime rates, hygiene standards and range of visitor attractions.

A scheme spokesman said: “To win Purple Flag status towns and cities must be welcoming to everyone, offer safe ways for visitors to travel home, provide a good mix of venues and attractions and be appealing not just at night but during the day too.

“Purple Flag towns can expect to benefit from lower crime and anti-social behaviour, and more visitors.”

Lads seeking a stag weekend in Amsterdam will be pleased to hear of Flybe’s intention to introduce direct flights between Inverness and the Netherlands’ capital.

The flights could be up and running by next summer if the airline are able to conclude a deal with partners.

Flybe, who recently posted new figures showing it was one of just three European airlines to keep making a profit through the recession, believe adding an Amsterdam route would be an excellent addition to its services.

There can be few better settings for a stag weekend than at Oktoberfest, which is off and underway once again in Munich.

A festival devoted to the world of drinking beer, with a fair emphasis to the oggling of last breasts, is pure poetry for any stag party.

The Oktoberfest is the world’s most famous beer festival, although it does not stop other cities trying to compete with their own beer festival.

The first Oktoberfest took place in 1810 and it now sees a staggering 6 million litres of beer consumed over the 16 days of fun.

For any lucky stags that are heading to Munich this month be sure to check out the Schottenhammel tent, which is a lively venue with a capacity of 6,000 people, almost all of whom are constantly drinking beer, while only stopping to sample Munich’s other obsession – sausages.

Lads seeking a stag night in the north Scotland region of Caithness will be celebrating the news that a nightclub in Wick has been given the go-ahead to stage erotic dancing.

The local council has given the Waterfront venue a licence that includes adult entertainment as well as films, theatre, gaming, indoor/outdoor sports and televised sports.

The decision could lure hen and stag parties to the otherwise quiet region of Scotland, which is near the northern point of John O’Grotes in the highlands.

However, for the locals the lure of a Glagow stag weekend may still be too tempting to resist.

Undercover police discovered strippers at a bar in Whitley Bay were doing more than taking their clothes off for stag parties.

The cops, who had to endure the shows five times ‘building evidence’ discovered that lads were chosen from the audience to be included in the acts, which often involved in them being stripped naked themselves and whipped.

The South Parade bar in the seaside town is now in danger of losing its licence as a result of the “lewd sex shows”

Jonathan Rodger, representing Northumbria Police, said: “Northumbria Police is not some kind of moral policeman. The wholesomeness of what goes on inside a licensed premises is no business of ours. But there is a connection between what takes place inside licensed premises and what occurs outside.

“The police desire is to change the culture of South Parade.”
