We were asked yesterday, live  on TalkSport about what we’d suggest for Prince William’s Stag Weekend, following the engagement announcement  a couple of days ago.

What Can William REALLY get away with on his Stag Weekend?

There are 2 ways you could look at it. If he’s just shelled out on a ring that’s worth £250,000, he may be a little hard up, so perhaps a cheesy and cheap stag weekend in Brighton, popping into a strip club would be best suited. But we did think that there is probably a law somewhere that doesn’t allow you to sellotape a future King, naked, to a lamppost down West Street (The main Stag club strip in Brighton for all of you not in the ‘know’).

We’ve settled on a Riga stag weekend instead. The stupidly lax gun laws there are so good that you can get your hands around live-ammunition-filled Kalashnikov’s, and Prince William could take a few pot shots into the bushes behind his targets, where there may or may not be literally hundreds of the ‘paps’ hiding. It is hunting season, and he is the stag, so we won’t frown upon that.

We were also thinking of offering his best man, Harry, the chance to stitch him up with a Kidnap The Stag package, where the local police over there (not the corrupt ones!) come and snatch the unsuspecting Stag and scare the bejoolies out of him at the thorough  enjoyment of the rest of the lads.

The girls in Riga are amazing, so it would be well worth the trip. Hopefully he won’t be tempted to stray that night though, as we think there would be PLENTY of people watching on.

It may not be the case for stag holidays, but a survey has revealed the most popular type of break for Brits is a trip to a beach resort.

Stag weekends usually involve the daytime hours spent sleeping off the night before, so a fantastic sandy beach in the hot sun is likely to be wasted.

However, data from Tesco Travel Money has revealed that 38% of UK travellers dream of a beach break, while 22% liked cultural city holidays.

Men particularly liked sport and outdoor holidays with a good night life, although the survey suggests when couples go away it is the woman that chooses the destinations.

Stag weekends in Bournemouth and Newquay are ideal for combining all of the above, while if you are head abroad a stag weekend in Barcelona can deliver both a beach and a great nightlife.

Yorkshire-based men looking to organise a stag weekend in Europe received a boost today (December 10th) after five new routes were announced for Doncaster Sheffield airport.

Leading budget airline easyJet revealed that it is set to operate flights to Faro, Palma (Majorca) and popular stag party destinations Amsterdam, Barcelona and Prague.

According to the company, there will be 21 departures per week starting from April 2010, with over 300,000 passengers expected to use the new services in the first year.

“easyJet is committed to expansion across the UK regions, providing greater access to our famously low fares and convenient services from your local airport,” commented Paul Simmons, UK regional general manager at easyJet.

The Doncaster Sheffield to Amsterdam flights are set to run daily, with travellers able to purchase singles from £24.99, which is the same price as for heading to Barcelona.

However, travellers will not be able to venture to the Spanish city on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while flights to Prague (starting from £26.99) will depart on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

BMI announced last month that it is set to axe its London-Amsterdam route.

British tourists are increasingly appreciating the value of taking a holiday in Iceland, it was claimed today (December 9th).

Since the economic crisis struck in the country last year, its currency, the krona, has been tumbling, causing visitors to the island to loosen their purse strings.

Sigga Groa Thorarinsdottir, marketing manager for the UK and Ireland at the Icelandic Tourist Board, explained that the trend is backed up by what Iceland has to offer.

She said: “Tourists are spending almost double the amount in Icelandic krona than they did in previous years, because they know they are getting better value for money.

“There are extremely competitive prices for fly-drive and city-break packages from UK tour operators on sale – especially for city breaks.”

Ms Thorarinsdottir added that many attractions are free in capital city Reykjavik, which will alert any groups looking to book an original stag weekend to Iceland.

In September, e-tid reported that Iceland Express is set to reinstate its Stansted to Reykjavik route on the back of increasing passenger demand.

Stag party organisers can now make use of a new Facebook application designed to simplify the hassle of booking group holidays, it emerged today (December 8th).

‘Beach Mate’, which was created by leading online travel agency On the Beach, is the first collaborative tool of its kind to appear on the social networking website.

The application allows users to invite their friends on a trip by providing them with a unique customer reference number, which they can use on the company’s booking page.

“Organising a group holiday can be very stressful and time-consuming, not to mention expensive, as the person organising the holiday often find themselves out of pocket,” said Alistair Daly, marketing director at On the Beach.

“Beach Mate is not only fun to use, but it will also take all the stress away from organising a group holiday.”

The new application has already proved to be a major hit as 18,000 fans have signed up, giving the company the largest Facebook following of any online travel agent.

On the Beach was formed in 1995 and offers trips to popular European stag party destinations such as Amsterdam, Berlin and Prague.

Stag party groups hoping to plan an affordable weekend in Europe before Christmas could do a lot worse than head to Vienna, it was suggested today (December 4th).

A survey conducted earlier this year by HolidayExtras.com revealed that 37 per cent of Britons expect to spend at least £50 per day when they are on big-city holidays.

However, Agelika Grzebyta, media manager for the Vienna Tourist Board, explained that the Austrian capital is less expensive than some of its continental rivals.

In addition, she noted that there are a number of lively events coming up in Vienna over the next few weeks which could be ideal for anyone on a stag weekend in the city.

“Vienna is not a cheap destination, but compared to other big cities [it is] still affordable and on a good mid-price range,” she said.

“There are also many events or locations that offer free access such as the Danube Island Festival, the Life Ball, the Vienna Music Festival in front of the city hall, all Christmas markets or the New Year’s Eve Trail.”

Vienna has a population of 1.7 million people, which makes it the tenth-largest city in Europe.

Wales could be the perfect destination for a stag weekend, according to a new report published by TravelBite.co.uk today (December 3rd).

The portal draws particular attention to the lively nightlife on offer in the major areas such as capital city Cardiff, where revellers make use of the multitude of bars and clubs.

One section reads: “The principality has some bustling towns and cities that are sure to provide a sufficient venue for even the most vociferous crowd.

“Cardiff is a hive of activity throughout the week, but its wide range of buzzing bars and substantial student population means it comes alive at night-time and especially at the weekends.”

In addition, the travel site notes that groups can fill the daylight hours during their Cardiff stag break by getting involved in any number of adventure activities, such as quad biking, paintballing and kayaking.

A recent report in the Derby Telegraph claimed that Cardiff city centre is a “haven for stag parties”, with the Radisson Hotel proving to be a particularly popular choice.

A renowned party hotspot in Zanzibar is being championed as an ideal venue for an original and action-packed stag weekend.

Nungwi has become a much-loved destination for thrill-seeking backpackers, with its stunning white sandy beaches, favourable climate and cheap accommodation.

However, a new report in the East African publication has drawn attention to its lively nightlife – forged through a plethora of beach bars – and its various water sports offerings.

“Be it snorkelling, diving, kayaking, partying, fine-dining, exploring local village life or taking a sunset dhow cruise, Nungwi has something for everyone,” noted author Mana Meadows.

“This is not a place for those seeking peace and quiet. Nungwi is peppered with a range of night-time venues, catering to many tastes and guaranteeing a good evening.”

In addition, those travelling to the town in stag parties would also have the opportunity to dine at some upmarket restaurants boasting the finest fresh seafood on offer.

Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania with a population of 1,070,000.

British men looking to find a cheap European destination for a stag party may be better served looking a little closer to home, if the results of a new report are to be believed.

PriceRunner.co.uk revealed in a study released today (December 1st) that London has become far less expensive than popular rivals such as Amsterdam and Berlin.

The UK capital came in at 19th in the 33-strong list of European cities inspected by the price comparison site, having been placed second in the same report two years ago.

“In some of the Scandinavian countries maybe they haven’t been as exposed to the recession so aren’t dropping prices in the same way,” PriceRunner chief executive Carl White told Sky News.

“We’ve seen the UK and London in particular drop right across the board.”

Oslo was found to be the most expensive city ahead of Sao Paulo, Copenhagen and Paris, while Mumbai in India was named as the least pricey city on the planet.

Activities such as paintballing and go-karting are particularly popular choices for groups heading out on stag weekends in London.

Brits heading next month for a stag weekend in Edinburgh might notice that the Scottish capital is hosting a special Christmas market.

Taking place from December 17th to 22nd, the Glisten! Christmas Market is a celebration of Scottish creative talent.

Visitors can expect to see fashion, jewellery and artistry from painters and crafts experts from around Scotland, with everything from vintage clothing and books to collectibles and home-grown organic produce.

The stalls will be located in the city’s famous Grassmarket area, which is popular among stag parties for its numerous watering holes, including Maggie Dickson’s and Biddy Mulligans.

Grassmarket Area Traders’ Association chairperson Fawns Reid explained that the market is a good chance for local artisans to display their wares and raise their profile.

“Glisten! is more than just a market, it is a celebration of Scottish talent and a great way to bring the community together at this special time of year,” she said.

Ms Reid urged visitors to the city to attend and enjoy the atmosphere as they browse the array of items on offer.

Other areas of Edinburgh popular with stag parties include Lothian Road, which has a number of pubs and clubs in close vicinity.
