A local authority in England has revealed that it is offering a lucky couple the chance to get married for free.
Leicestershire county council is offering the unusual prize to highlight the fact that weddings can be affordable.
Gill Hall, a registrar in the region, said this could be a good way of encouraging people to get married, as the state of the economy may act as a deterrent.
“I suspect a lot of people might be thinking of putting getting married off because of the media coverage of how expensive it is,” she told BBC News.
Ms Hall added that a registry office wedding is very reasonably priced.
In order to highlight this, Leicestershire county council are allowing couples to enter a ballot to win a ceremony worth a little over £100.
According to Fairinvestment.co.uk, the average UK wedding now costs more than £18,000.
