Dutch brewer creates world’s strongest beer

A competition between brewers has seen the creation of a beer which is a staggering 60 per cent alcohol by volume.

The claim of creating the world’s strongest brew has been made by Dutchman Jan Nijboer’s brewery, which translates as ‘The Refrigerated Ship’. The creation, which could become the ultimate stag do drink has been called “Start The Future”.

“You don’t drink it like beer, but like a cocktail — in a nice whisky or cognac glass,” explained Nijboer to Dutch news agency ANP.

However, this special drink does not come cheap with a one-third litre bottle retailing for 35 euros each.

Nijboer has been competing with Scottish brewers BrewDog, who had overtaken a previous brew to claim the record, but the alcohol limits have been pushed yet further.
