Popularity of short breaks has increased

The popularity of the short overseas break has increased in the past year, according to a new study.

The rise in short breaks is in addition to the UK holidaymaker’s main holiday as consumer confidence in travel and willingness to fork out for a quick holiday shows signs of recovery following a difficult year in 2009.

The research from Mintel suggests that the driving force behind most UK holidaymakers’ short breaks is the desire to experience something new, with 72 per cent of travellers saying they like to visit destinations they’ve not experienced before.

When choosing a shorter holiday abroad, UK holidaymakers also look for destinations with good cultural attractions, as well as good beaches and coastlines.
