Short holidays make people happier

A report in the Daily Telegraph has explained that people who use their holiday allowances in small bursts, such as for stag weekends, rather than all at once are happier.

Psychologists believe this is because people who take the mini-breaks have more happy memories than those who holiday for an extended period of time.

Dan Ariely, a behavioural economist, who teaches at Duke University in North Carolina, said: “On a long vacation, day seven is less good than day one because it’s not as exciting. That’s why in general, going away four times [a year] provides more benefit than you would expect, and going away for one week provides less benefit than you would expect.”

It is believed that your holiday enjoyment diminishes as you grow accustomed to your surroundings and this certainly would be the case if you were one a two week long stag do, while your liver would also be far from happy too.
