And in the other direction it’s 3 km to Nottingham Castle, the home of Robin Hood’s nemesis. You can start out with drinks at the RBG Bar and Grill which serves gourmet burgers and local specialities from 5.30pm and drinks till midnight.

On your return, you can chill out with the TV and free high-speed WiFi – great for streaming a movie or posting your selfies online. A big bonus of staying here is you can work off the night’s excesses in the gym and pool and enjoy a bit of pampering in the steam room and jacuzzi. Or your merry men may prefer the option of a lie-in and a hearty full English breakfast, served until 10.30 at weekends.
