What to expect
How Does It Work?
Your group will have a couple of targets and you will take turns throwing it, with an instructor guiding you on the proper form so you can hit the target and it stays. It will take a few throws for you to fully get the hang of it, but if you're booking Whistle Punks on a Bristol stag do then you should get approximately a 70 minute session booked in, which your organiser can confirm for you.
If you're heading abroad, such as on a Budapest stag do, you will have several rounds going on for an hour per group, to find out the real lumberjack champion, with wooden target setup for you to aim at.
There may be several different sizes of axes to choose from, so you can pick the one that you can get a decent throw with. Heavier tends to mean it will stick more, but if it's too heavy then you might not get the form right, so it's a balance of the two. You've got an hour to perfect your form until you're ready to become a true Viking!
You will be standing four metres away from the targets, to ensure your safety and the people around you. All sessions will be started with a safety briefing, but that won't take long before you're all having shots and getting the beers ready.
Can I Bring My Own Axe?
No, please don't. Why do you even own an axe? Especially don't bring it abroad, are you insane? You'll be stopped at the airport. All equipment will be provided for the whole group, so you don't need to bring anything with you, well, except for some forfeits for the person who does the worst.
If Someone Doesn't Want To Play, Can They Just Watch?
Absolutely, axe throwing is a very popular activity to be watched, so they will enjoy seeing each person have a crack at hitting the target, while they will especially love watching the people who completely fail, as that certainly brings the most entertainment.
