Benidorm stag do guide

Benidorm is the place to go if you want to party and you want to party hard. This Mediterranean seaside resort is renowned for its warm climate - even during the winter time temperatures barely drop below 18c - but you’re never far from a gorgeous beach, or a cool beer.

So if you’re planning to escape the dreary British weather, grab the lads, grab your passports and grab your novelty sun hats. Just remember though that there’s more to Benidorm than just shots and sand. The town boasts a superb range of adrenaline activities, not to mention a popular waterpark. There’s even some chilled out scenic villages and waterfalls nearby that you can visit if your hangover is particularly debilitating. Simply put, it’s almost impossible not to have a good time here.

Great if you are looking for

  • More bars than you could hope to visit on a month-long stag
  • Sunny weather, sandy beaches, sensational nightlife
  • Water parks, party cruises and watersports on your doorstep

Getting around

There are plenty of budget flights from London and regional UK airports to Alicante-Elche Airport, which is the nearest airport to Benidorm. It’s about 2.5 hours from Heathrow. On arrival, the best way from the airport to Benidorm is by private transfer - we can arrange for you to be picked up and driven direct to your hotel - or stop off for a quick cold one on the way if you’d like. Transfers come free with most of our Benidorm packages, so its a no brainer to have them in place for the group. Arriving at different times? We should also be able to assist in shared shuttle transfers for those arriving on different flights. If you’re keen on starting your Benidorm stag weekend in style, we can arrange a Disco Bus to pick you up from the airport. There will even be a gorgeous stripper onboard waiting to greet you!

Alternatively, a taxi into town costs around 70 euros, and takes 40 minutes or so. A bus costs around 20 euros for a return ticket, and takes a little longer.

Once you’ve arrived in Benidorm itself you won’t have any difficulty in getting from A to B. There is a bus service around town, and you can buy tickets to cover 24 hours or 72 hours. Taxis are also easy to hail, or book in advance, and there are six seaters available. But Benidorm taxis can be expensive - and remember that they are allowed to charge for waiting time, so if you book one into town, make sure you’re ready on time.

Most groups tend to get around Benidorm on foot however, and in fact this is the most enjoyable way because you’ll pass a lot of bars, and views, that you might otherwise have missed. The narrow streets of the old town are very atmospheric in the early evenings, while the beach promenades and skyscraper lined avenues in the more modern parts of Benidorm give you that tingling ‘holiday’ vibe. The promenade in Benidorm is great, it's lively and buzzy and super clean!

An excellent way to explore Benidorm is by hiring an electric bike from one of the many suppliers around the centre. They are roughly 25 euros a day and with that extra bit of power you can glide along the promenade and into town and save all that energy for the evening.

Benidorm is essentially made up of five areas. Poniente (sun setting) is to the west, and Levante (sun rising) is to the east. There is a beautiful golden beach in front of each. Levante Beach is about a mile and a half long, while Poniente Beach is longer, quieter and also has loads of bars and restaurants. Between them is the port, and a headland that’s occupied by the beautiful old town (El Castell) which stretches inland. La Cala is to the west of Poniente, while to the east of Levante is Rincon de Loix, where a lot of the more upmarket and stylish hotels are located, many of which have their own bars and are just moments from the beach.

And a little way off the coast you have Benidorm Island, which you can take a boat trip out to if you fancy escaping the madness for a while. As you’ll find in our Nightlife section below, Benidorm stag groups spend most of their time around the Levante and Rincon de Loix areas.

Tips and ideas

Once prey to Barbary and Ottoman pirates, Benidorm in more recent years has been invaded by wave after wave of fly ‘n’ flop tourists on package holidays, giving it what we think is a bit of an undeserved reputation. Today, Benidorm is a lot more refined than it used to be, but it’s still just as much fun.

Enjoying around 3,400 hours of sunshine every year, with temperatures averaging around 30c in summer, it’s all about the beach in Benidorm, baby. Most of the resorts are along Levante Beach, which is dotted with hundreds of umbrellas and naturally gets much more raucous than Poniente on the other side of the headland. So Poniente is your best bet for catching some Z’s while sunbathing. Between the two beaches there was once a castle. Now, you’ll find the Balcón del Mediterráne viewpoint here, offering magnificent Mediterranean panoramas.

Given the idyllic coastal location, it’s no surprise that many of our most popular Benidorm stag activities involve you getting wet and wild. You can join a full-day Catamaran Trip for those party boat vibes, with onboard DJs and the drinks flowing freely. For those seeking a blast of adrenaline, there’s watersports including Cable Skiing, Wakeboarding and banana boating to explore. Later, why not get the party started with an Afternoon Barbecue, with plenty of free drinks included, on a sun-splashed roof terrace?

Other top stag activities in Benidorm include days out riding rollercoasters at the awesome Terra Mitica theme park, or slides at the Aqualandia water park. We can sort your group out with tickets, and transfers, to both - as they are some way out of town.

If you’re planning a midsummer stag do in Benidorm then you could try tying it in with the Low Festival, a popular three-day indie rocker that usually takes place in late July.

As for food, we recommend spending at least one early evening trawling the tapas joints along the cobbled streets of the old town for an authentic taste of Spanish cuisine. The rest of the time, you’re spoilt for choice in Benidorm. Around English Square and along Calle Gerona which runs parallel with Levante Beach there is every kind of food you could wish for: pizzas, steaks, burgers, curries, and of course you’re never far from a great all-day fry-up. Corky’s Penny Farthing is something of a Benidorm institution when it comes to breakfast.

You may be staying at a self-catering apartment while in Benidorm. In which case have no fear about being able to get all the bread, bacon and eggs you need, as there are plenty of low-cost supermarkets around in the centre of town offering typical Britsih products.

Nightlife

The infamous Sticky Vicky may have retired, along with her bag of tricks, but the raunchy side of Benidorm is still going strong. Strip shows are just the tip of the iceberg here, and at some of the evening live performances you’ll be spitting out your beer quicker than you can drink it!

Benidorm is a hedonist’s paradise. There are something like 2,000 bars and clubs here, and many of them are still open by the time more responsible stag groups are waking up and thinking about breakfast. Happy hours abound, and they’re very flexible about how long an hour actually is.

Levante Beach Boulevard, known as the Strip, is crowded with bars, while Calle Mallorca, where Avenida de Mallorca and Calle Gerona meet, is fondly known as English Square. This is Stag Central in Benidorm, flooded with party people by 11pm and not even thinking of quieting down until at least 6am. Many of Benidorm’s liveliest venues are found here and you’re assured of a good time. But beware that door staff have a reputation for not suffering any bad behaviour.

If you’re new to Benidorm, then the sheer amount of choice can be quite bewildering. Do you follow the crowds, seek out the icons, or try and find quieter, lesser-known spots before they get lairy later on? Well, to help you plan your stag weekend, here’s our rundown of the top Benidorm bars and clubs.

Champions is a great daytime venue in the heart of English Square with massive screens for the sports, and the place to be if your team’s in action that weekend.

Benidorm has countless cabaret shows going on. The Jail Rock Bar gets some brilliant acts, as does the pirate-themed Morgan Tavern which is famous for its appearances in the TV sitcom Benidorm. Besides an excellent roster of tribute acts, Jokers also hosts foam parties in summer.

Enjoy a spot of karaoke? Black Chicken is the place to strut your stuff and get the crowd singing along to your Mr Brightside.

Other Benidorm venues we love are Stardust, once home to Sticky Vicky and a brightly lit, ever-busy gem of the Strip; the Hippodrome, where scantily clad dancers writhe along to DJ sets while costumed performers breathe fire, and the Red Lion where you can ride the bucking bronco, or take it easy on the suntrap terrace.

Above all - remember that with The Stag Company you can book a private guided Pub Crawl. Our friendly hosts, based in Benidorm throughout the season, will take the time to get to know your group and what you’re looking for. Then they’ll escort you around the hottest bars and clubs in Benidorm, ensuring you have no difficulties getting in anywhere. It’s a surefire way to get your Benidorm stag off to the best possible start, and get your bearings too in one of Europe’s most dynamic nightspots.

FAQ

Is Benidorm good for stag do’s?

Benidorm is one of Europe’s most legendary stag do destinations. There are something like 2,000 bars and clubs open from around 11am ‘til the early hours, gorgeous golden beaches, sunny weather, and stacks of great stag activities too. Add the fact that any given weekend sees dozens of hen parties making their way around too, and it’s easy to see why so many stag groups choose Benidorm.

What are the bars in Benidorm like?

If you’ve seen the TV show, you’ll have some idea of what the nightlife can be like in Benidorm, but it doesn’t do justice to the immense variety here. There are live cabaret performances, karaoke bars, strip shows, sports pubs, beach clubs and Irish pubs - and many other places that get seriously weird. In short: whatever kind of night your group is into, you’ll find it in Benidorm. This is where you come if you want to party.

Best sports bar in Benidorm?

There are plenty of sports bars around Benidorm if you and the lads want to catch a game before heading out for the evening. The Levante Beach promenade is lined with likely candidates, but Champions in the English Square is famous. They show everything from football and rugby to F1 and tennis, and it’s so well-known that many actual sports stars and celebs have dropped in over the years.

What time do bars shut in Benidorm?

Most bars are open until at least 3am but some, such as Jokers, don’t close until much later. Those with the stamina will sometimes be walking back to their hotels in daylight. For that reason - and given there is so much choice in Benidorm - we recommend staying a little way out from the main nightlife areas, to ensure that when you want to get some sleep you actually can.

Best things to do on a Benidorm stag do

Most of our Benidorm stag do’s divide their time between the bars in the evening, and the beach in the day, to get over the night before. But besides getting some much-needed shut-eye under an umbrella, sunbathing and splashing around in the warm sea, there are plenty of amazing stag do activities in Benidorm that you should be aware of.

Watersports are a big thing here, including Cable Skiing, which is kind of like water skiing but without a boat. Boat parties are also massive of course - sailing aboard a giant catamaran with drinks flowing and DJs spinning tunes - it’s the life. You’ve also got a couple of awesome days out available to you at the Aqualandia water park (40 minutes from central Benidorm), and the Terra Mitica theme park (90 minutes). We can book your activities, and where necessary arrange door-to-door transfers for convenience too so that you arrive on time.

Where are your Benidorm stag hotels?

There are 100s of hotels, resorts and apartments in Benidorm so even in summer when the town is packed with holidaymakers there is plenty of choice. Many of our Benidorm stag hotels are located close to Levante Beach, and Rincon de Loix, which are the most popular parts of Benidorm for nightlife. We also have lots of stag-friendly accommodation around Poniente, which is quieter. Want to be near the beach? We can help. Want a hotel with a pool, a roof terrace, or an onsite bar? No problem. Just let us know your dates, your approximate group numbers, and your budget, and we’ll have a raft of suggestions for you based on our years of experience organising stag weekends in Benidorm.
