Exeter Stag do guide

You might want to check your stag-mina if you're planning a a trip here. Very much a night time city, Exeter is a mecca of traditional, or as we'd probably say, proper, English pubs located in some smart surroundings. Many of these establishments are located on the locks, meaning you can wet your stag do whistles by the water in one of the city’s many beer gardens, and once the sun goes down, you might be surprised at the vast choice for post-midnight nightlife on your Exeter stag party. You have been warned.

  • Friday Pre-Club Bar Entry

    6) Friday Pre-Club Bar Entry

When a bar just isn’t enough, we suggest a party bar. If you’re booking your stag weekend in Exeter, why not head to John Gandy's on Friday night for a post-pub, pre-club session. This place is an Exeter institution, loved for its cool staff, well-stocked bar and music scene. Enjoy tunes from resident DJs or live bands as you kick back with a pint. The space inside is a mix of snug corners, bar area and dance floor, with a cocktail bar that pulls plenty of fun-loving girls through the doors. Late opening on Friday night means this is the perfect place to warm up before hitting the tiles. The city-centre location makes it easy to keep the lads together for the short walk to the club, making this an ideal venue for your stag shenanigans.

  • Friday Nightclub Entry

    10) Friday Nightclub Entry

Exeter may well be the biggest night out going in this part of the country, but that doesn’t mean you can get away with not planning your Friday night properly. Nightclub entry is vital to get sorted if you are to avoid being turned away from everywhere, as stag groups are infamously prone to be. Thankfully, the lot of you are more than welcome here at Unit 1, who promise a huge night out for the whole team. Located in the heart of the city on Summerland Street, this place is guaranteed to be pumping into the wee hours of Saturday morning with a party-loving crowd. National Express goes all the time, trains go straight from London Waterloo, Exeter Airport is only six miles from the city centre and the M5 links to Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol and all routes from the London M4 corridor lead to glorious Exeter.

Tips and ideas  Tips and ideas

You can see Rougemont Castle Gateway or the Underground Passages but I doubt you’d want that. The Museum is worth a visit, partly because it’s free of charge. Action is what we want and Exeter has taken paint-balling to the next level by building an Iron Age Encampment on its outskirts amongst other venues.. This creates a unique battleground to decorate your stag-mates in a new colour we like to call "hint of machine-gun. "I just made a Jackson Pollock of his b*llocks!!!" - Excited stag and literary genius (not!) Mart Newton’s favourite kill cliché, May 2007

Nightlife  Nightlife

There are more choices of music in Exeter than Rik Waller has had hot dinners. “Cavern” is a prime example of alternative music with its cool underground atmosphere. “The Mint” on Fore Street is an ideal place to start drinking. Every hour there seems to be happy hour, and stags have spent a lot of happy hours there believe me!!!??? The drinks are cheap and the clientele are bonkers!!! Clubs such as “The Hub” (formerly “The Three Fat Fish), and “Club Rococco” (both on Mary Arches Street) are usual after-bar venues, for those stags who haven’t lost control of their bodily functions by now!!
