Getting around

Most stag groups choose to travel to Newcastle either by train or by car, although Newcastle Airport is just 20 minutes away from the city centre by rail. Newcastle’s main train station, Central Station, is just a 10-minute stroll from all the action of the centre, which itself is compact and very walkable, with plenty of pedestrianised areas.

If you’re driving, then it’s good to know that it’s easy to park here, with eight central multi-storey car parks and many Newcastle stag hotels offering secure on-site parking (though sometimes for a supplementary fee). 24 hour-parking can be found at many car parks in the city, including the NCP on John Dobson Street. If you have a bunch of guys coming from one part of the country, it definitely makes sense to car share and split the petrol and parking costs. As mentioned before, the city is pretty compact, but If you’re looking to go a little further afield or don’t fancy walking, then there’s various transport options on offer.

Buses

The city’s buses are a great option for making your way around the city. Whether it’s a short hop to a pub or you’re heading slightly further afield, then you can rely on Newcastle’s affordable and efficient bus network. There’s various bus companies that service the city, including Arriva Bus, Go North East and Stagecoach, all of which offer a variety of tickets. If you’re going to be jumping on and off the buses during your day of stag do activities, then we’d recommend getting a day saver ticket - please refer to each operator’s website for full details and pricing.

Metro

If buses aren’t your thing, then you’ve got the Nexus, The Tyne & Wear Metro service. Serving 60 stations, we’d say that this is one of the cheapest and quickest ways of zipping around the city and getting from A to B. Connecting Newcastle with Gateshead, Sunderland, the coast and the airport, the Nexus has several stops in the city centre including Central Station, Haymarket and Monument - which is ideal for the buzzing atmosphere of Grey Street. Just look for the big yellow and black 'M' logo! You can buy tickets for one zone, two zones, or get an unlimited all zones day ticket, which will provide you with unlimited travel for one day on the Metro, Shield’s Ferry and local rail service from Newcastle to Sunderland. Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines at any Metro station.

Taxis

Besides the bus network and  Metro, there’s also plenty of taxis available in Newcastle. You’ll find taxi ranks situated close to all the main locations that you're likely to end up in, such as Quayside, Bigg Market, Central Station and Dean Street. Ride sharing service Uber also operates 24/7 across the city, making it handy if you already have an account. Taxis are perfect after a massive night out in the Toon and will whisk you back to your accommodation, where you can get some well-deserved beauty sleep. Friendly bit of advice - if you’re hopping into a cab, just ensure that the driver has got the meter running so there’s no surprises when it comes to payment. Also check that they accept cash and cards (most should, but always good to check these things).

Looking for stag do ideas that combine cheap booze with lively venues and a fantastic clubbing scene? Newcastle is the jewel in the UK's nightlife crown. The city is famed for its love of social drinking and friendly locals. As far as areas to check out, we recommend you visit the Diamond Strip, Bigg Market or the Quayside for your stag do entertainment.

Diamond Strip

If it’s a wild night out that you’re after, then the city’s Diamond strip is the place to go. This part of the city is all about the good times and there’s a massive choice of great venues here, where you’ll be able to knock back the drinks and party with like minded revellers. Make sure you check out Howlers, a must-visit stag do bar in Newcastle. Open ‘til 3am, it has everything from crowd karaoke sessions to giant pizzas and supersize cocktails. But the highlight is...a massive ball pit. Yep that’s right, a huge colourful ball pit for adults. We’re as bemused as you, but it sounds pretty fun, right? Other top nightspots in the Diamond Strip include the stylishly high-end Cha Cha Buchi.

Bigg Market

Our pick of the best stag do venues around Bigg Market in Newcastle must include the Bierkeller, whose simple but effective tagline is: 'We want to bring Bavaria to the people!' This cavernous, underground pub certainly delivers a touch of Germany to Newcastle, with huge steins full of foaming lager being loudly clunked together as the night unfolds. Filthy’s meanwhile, is not a strip joint as you might think from the name, but instead Newcastle’s premier live music venue for up-and-coming local talent, with DJs playing indie and rock classics on weekends.

Quayside

When it comes to Newcastle’s legendary Quayside, there’s no shortage of stag-do-friendly bars around here. Look forward to some of the liveliest venues in the city, along with a warm welcome for the most unforgettable time. If you’re after a great meal out before the rest of the night kicks off, then you’ll be pleased to know that Quayside is an absolute haven for foodies. There’s all kinds of restaurants here, serving up food from around the world, offering plenty of choice for everyone.

Best Stag drinking game

21 definitely. For the uninitiated, it’s basically a game where you take it in turns to say numbers-you can say up to four numbers each and add in words instead of numbers to confuse people (EG instead of saying four you could say elephant) and whoever lands on number 21 has to down their drink. The more beers you have the harder it gets!

Favourite Stag do destination: Newcastle

In Newcastle, I’d suggest saving your cash for activities and the nightlife. It’s much cheaper up North so you do get a lot for your money, but a night out on the town is so good I guarantee you’ll be out for the long haul. Accommodation wise, you’ll just need somewhere you can leave your stuff and hang your hungover head in shame come the morning-oh and it’s worth checking if they do a good fry up as you’ll definitely need it! We have loads of options in the city for stags on a budget, so you know you’ll have a decent place to rest your sore heads in the morning.

Activity wise, there’s so much to do in Newcastle that a weekend is almost not enough! Personally having tried a number stag of activities, I’d still recommend a classic bubble or binocular football experience. It doesn’t matter how big the age range is in your group or however many different personalities you’ve got, you’ll be hard pushed to find someone who won’t enjoy the activity!

What else?

Talking of football, Newcastle also offers human table football - it’s great if you have a large group as it’s also hilarious to watch when your team aren’t on the pitch. The game basically has giant inflatables and is a really unique activity exclusive to Newcastle. If your mates are really in to football we also have football tickets, so you can get close to the action - and trust me, no one celebrates after a game quite like the Geordies!

If you want something different, Newcastle also has a great rock climbing session. They throw in lunch and transport too so it’s a completely hassle free way to spend your time up North.

In the evening, there isn’t much point doing anything other than partying when you’re in the city, as I’d go as far as to say it has one of the best nightlife experiences of any stag destination. The bar crawl is really worth doing - some of the popular bars are in different locations so it’s worth getting someone who knows the city to show you where to grab a pint.

We also have entrance to some of the bars seen on Geordie Shore which are well worth a visit if you want to be at the centre of the city’s vibrant nightlife. I’d also say a boat party is a worthwhile way to start pre drinking. There are themed nights so it can be a really fun way to start off your night with other like-minded revellers. If you’re staying in the UK, you really can’t beat it - it’s arguably the party capital of Britain!
